I will be speaking on two panels later today at Social Media Week Lagos. I was initially reluctant - especially since I am using most social media platforms less and less these days - but I thought about it and realized it might not be a bad way to begin speaking about the ideas that have been obsessing me over the last year or so. Open cooperatives, platform cooperatives, and building post-capitalist structures as a way of creating an economy focused on providing value to human beings without destroying the environment.
The first one is titled "Communicating Africa's Fashion Story" and starts at 3pm. It will be hosted by Dami Idowu of Spice Tv Africa .
The second panel begins at 4:30pm and will be hosted by Yoanna "Pepper" Chikezie of The Assembly Hub. The theme is "Sourcing Fashion in Africa, The Opportunities, Challenges + Leveraging Technology For Development".
I am hoping to have a conversation about how building ecosystems in a systemic and holistic approach using technology is probably the only way we are going to be able to create a sustainable fashion industry. Whether that is communicating what the "African fashion story" is, or improving our capacity to not only design, but create, sell and export fashion from here.
I believe both panels will be recorded so I will post links to the relevant channels once they go live.
