Newtype is concerned with the exploration, expansion and propagation of alternatives to the prevalent worldview concerned with empiricism, the pursuit of efficiency and the primacy of the individual and the human above all to the detriment of all.
Grounded in indigenous codes and cultures from around the world, we hope to develop a new approach to making, thinking, engaging, living and working with each other and the world; fusing old wisdom with new knowledge.
We hope that through this project we will be able to find sustainable ways of coexisting on our planet and expand the horizon of human flourishing.
The same level of thinking that created a problem cannot solve it. It is based on this maxim that we work, believing in the possibilities of a future that is within reach because we have already been there.
Newtype is an exercise in developing alternative forms of inquiry and ways of seeing the world. We may stumble across answers in our search, but the primarily goal is to be able to encounter a different, hopefully richer world.
As we become more aware of the challenges we face in the 21st century - from climate change and ecosystem failure to an increased incidence of mental health challenges and human alienation - it is becoming clear that the systems and technologies that have given us so much power over our environment are also affecting us adversely.
I am maintaining a constantly evolving moodboard for the project over (https://www.are.na/yegwa-ukpo/the-newtype-vocab)[here] on Are.na, so feel free to have a look.
